About Raw pu-erh

Raw pu-erh, also called sheng pu-erh, is made from sun-dried tea material from Yunnan and finished without the accelerated wet-piling step used to make ripe pu-erh. Its character depends on origin, harvest, processing, pressing and, over time, storage. This collection brings together TAYUNE raw pu-erh cakes selected through our access to the Guangzhou tea market, with product pages explaining what is known about year, region, leaf material, format, storage, tasting profile and brewing.

When comparing raw pu-erh, start with information that can be verified. Production area and harvest year offer useful context, but they do not determine quality by themselves. Pay attention to how the liquor develops over repeated infusions: aroma, bitterness, astringency, texture, returning sweetness and the balance between them. Younger raw pu-erh may be brighter, greener or more direct. With suitable storage, an older tea may become calmer and more integrated, but age alone is not a guarantee of quality.

For a first purchase, choose by drinking purpose rather than prestige. A smaller format or approachable cake can suit regular brewing, while a more structured tea may reward slower gongfu sessions and comparison across steeps. Check each product page for exact cake weight, available format, price, stock status and brewing guidance. If you are new to the category, begin with our Pu-erh tea basics guide. If you prefer a darker, smoother profile produced through wet piling, compare the Ripe Pu-erh collection.
